Making Disciples from Iowa City to the World
A Short History
In the fall of 1962 a small group of believers met on the Johnson County Fairgrounds to form Faith Baptist Fellowship. Faith Baptist called Carol Barker as their first pastor. He served part time for one year. Tim Barrett became pastor in 1963. Under Pastor Barrett's ministry the name was changed to Faith Baptist Church in 1964. The church purchased a small building to meet in on Fairchild Street that same year.
Pastor William Brown serving under Baptist Mid-Mission became pastor in 1969. It was under his ministry that the church occupied its present location. Under Pastor Gerald Titus's ministry (1974 to 1976), the church became self-supporting. Lloyd Miller became pastor in 1976 and served for nine years.
Pastor John Sauser arrived in Iowa City in 1985. The church grew through Pastor Sauser's ministry. In the fall of 2001 Faith started Harvest Baptist Church in Williamsburg, Iowa. Pastor Sauser and about fifty members of Faith are now working diligently in that community. Pastor Tim Waldron came to Faith in December 2001 and the church continues to obey the Lord's Great Commission by making disciples from Iowa City ... to the world!
