What to Expect?

What time does worship start and end?

Our morning worship service begins at 10:00 a.m. and ends around 11:20 a.m. Our second service begins around 11:30 a.m. and usually lasts about an hour.

What about the preaching and teaching?

Our pastors and teachers are committed to bringing glory to God by declaring and explaining His Word. The preaching is primarily “expository.” This means we preach or teach through a book or section or passage from God’s Word. The Word is explained clearly and application is presented that brings changes in our lives. Sermons are usually 30-40 minutes in length.

What about the music?

Our music is a blend of traditional and current hymns and songs. Our worship music is usually accompanied by piano and organ so we can hear our voices and sing together truth about God. Our worship music is not entertainment. It is participation together by the people of God. We do have special music that includes solos, groups,  and instrumentals.

What about the Bible?

All of our ministries are centered on God’s Word. We encourage people to bring their Bible. If you don’t have a Bible, let us know and we’ll get one for you. Most of our preaching and teaching is from the New King James Version.

What about children?

Faith Baptist Church is dedicated to help kids know God through Jesus! We offer Nursery and Children’s Church during our worship time. We have Sunday School for all ages each Sunday at 9:00 a.m. This includes kindergarten through high school. On Wednesday nights we have Truth Trackers for kids age 3 through grade 6. Our summer Vacation Bible School reaches kids throughout Iowa City with the Word of God and the good news of Jesus!

What about giving money?

We do have many members and regular attenders who give financially for God’s work in the church. This is part of worship to God. There is no expectation of giving from our guests and visitors. We praise God for everyone who joins us for worship!

What should I wear?

The focus of our services is God and we want to help you know Him through Jesus. We believe that our appearance should reflect a heart of reverence and respect in worship. Modest clothing keeps our attention on God.
